The Melbourne Cup!

This post is about the… Melbourne Cup! Well, you could tell the post is about the Melbourne Cup because of the heading, why am I saying this? “Cough, cough”

The Melbourne Cup is the best known race in Australia, it’s held on the first Tuesday of November every year. It’s also known as “the race that stops the nation.”

Sadly, I couldn’t find the horses that are racing this year, but I will tell you the winners of the Melbourne Cup in the past ten years.

  • Dunaden (2011)
  • Americain (2o10)
  • Shocking (2009)
  • Viewed (2008)
  • Efficient (2007)
  • Delta Blues (2006)
  • Makybe Diva (2005)
  • Makybe Diva (2004)
  • Makybe Diva (2003)
  • Media Puzzle (2002)

Makybe Diva has won the Melbourne three times! Wow,  and Media Puzzle won the same year I was born.

Some of the most famous race horses are Phar Lap, Seabiscuit, Secretariat, Black Caviar and that’s about all that I know.

Have you or are you going to the Melbourne Cup?

Do you know any facts about it?

What horse are you or did you go for?

    Dear Bronte,

I’m sure you enjoy the Melbourne Cup each year as it focuses on horses and you do love horses! As you may know, there are quite a few different horse racing events at this time of the year and it is called the “Spring Racing Carnival”. You are right though, the Melbourne Cup is the biggest race/event.

Here are some fun facts about the Melbourne Cup for you:
    * Last year, 26,000 international and interstate visitors came for the Melbourne Cup.
    * Phar Lap’s heart was 6.2kg, but the average weight of a horse’s heart is just 3.2kg.
    * Six grey horses have won the Melbourne Cup.
    * No horse has ever won from barrier 18.

I went to the Melbourne Cup once, about 12 years ago. Now of course I am teaching at school when the Melbourne Cup is on. 🙂

    Your teacher,
    Miss Jordan

      Dear Miss Jordan,
      thanks for the comment! 🙂
Those are very interesting facts. 26,000, wow!
Did you know that the best horses of racing at this moment is Black Caviar? She’s gone way past Phar Lap, but will never get past Secriteriat’s speed at his last big race, now that was amazing. 😯

How was the Melbourne cup? What was it like?

      Your student,
      Bronte  😆

I never said goodbye, well, goodbye!

Yes, you did go for Americane. But the year before when he won I was going for him, Elihja and I went for him.

And todays Monday (I couldn’t reply the day you left the comment).
